Public rest rooms

If you're anything like me, you probably hate using public rest
rooms. Of course, sometimes we have no choice, so whats the 'safest'
way to spend a penny in public?

After analyzing a total of 51 public restrooms, experts found that
the stall that consistently had the least bacteria was the one that
is closest to the door. This stall also consistently had the most
toilet paper!

It was assumed that people avoid the first stall as they want
privacy, so they select a stall that is further away from the door.

Tests also show that when a toilet is flushed, a fine mist that
contains contagious bacteria sprays up out of the bowl. This mist
can lead to intestinal bugs and you could even catch hepatitis from
it... So it's a very good idea to stand before you flush!

Now you know - Use stall 1 and stand up before flushing and you
should avoid any nasties.

Self Help - Why We Experience Pain And Why It Can Be Good For Us

Why Is There Pain And Suffering In Life?

Humans can be strange creatures. It is often only through
pain and suffering that we take the time to really get to
know ourselves and make changes in our life. Many of us also
do not value things that are too easily achieved, i.e. that
we get without pain.

Pain is an inevitable part of life. If, however, you are
choosing to walk the high road (rather than the low road),
you will be minimizing the amount of pain and suffering you
would otherwise experience as you voluntarily choose to
learn your lessons before the pain becomes so great that you
are forced to.

So why do we have pain in our lives? Your conscious and your
unconscious (or soul) will give you very different answers
to this question.

How Your Conscious Mind Sees Pain

If we are honest, most of us see suffering as something
unpleasant to be endured or avoided. We see the better times
in life to be those when we are experiencing harmony,
contentment and happiness. When we are content, however, we
do not feel the need to search for answers. The times in
life that make us grow and give us the depth to our
character are not those times spent in harmony, contentment
and happiness, but rather those time spent in adversity. In
the same way that a baby who continued to lie quietly and
contently on a rug would never learn to crawl and then walk,
so it is for us. It is the times of frustration and pain
that move us forward and help us to grow.

There are times in most lives, when we feel we cannot endure
what life is throwing at us. During those times I remind
myself that I chose this life and I would not have chosen
things I did not believe I could endure or grow from.

How Your Soul Sees It

Your soul or unconscious sees pain and suffering as the
opportunity for healing, growth and understanding. Struggle
is natural to growth. In the same way that metal is made
stronger each time it is returned to the fire and then
struck on the anvil, so too are you made stronger each time
you endure adversity. Eventually the suffering and pain
fades and you are left with the gifts that are their legacy.

Although you have designed this lifetime in advance, while
you are here you still have the power of freewill.
Unconsciously, you can choose whether or not you will
experience some of the suffering you had planned to help you
with your growth.

This is illustrated in a story told by a subject in The
Journey of Souls by Michael Newton. In the story a little
girl chose to live a life where she could help others to
learn. To ensure she did this, she chose at the age of 8 to
fall out of a carriage and land beneath its wheels. As a
result of this accident, she suffered immense pain in her
legs and was crippled for the rest of her life.

Living and coping with the pain gave her powers of
concentration above and beyond those experienced by other
people. She used these powers of focus later in life to
become an inspirational teacher. The fact that she was bound
in a wheelchair meant she lived a life focused more upon
mental and emotional rather than physical skills as she had
deliberately unconsciously chosen to remove them from that
lifetime. The very thing that seemed to be such a tragic
event was the very thing that in the end meant she would
become successful in her chosen career and ensure her
personal growth.

While in a trance state the subject was able to explain the
unconscious moment of choice she experienced before she
continued to play with the carriage door until it opened.
She knew that she could stop playing with the door and avoid
falling out of the carriage and becoming crippled. She knew
that if she did this, she would still have a good life, but
she wouldn't experience the same level of personal growth
and neither would she serve others to the same degree.

Find The Positive In Your Pain

As difficult as it sounds, there is reason to be positive
about your pain and suffering. As a friend said to me while
I was recovering from surgery, "Embrace the pain it means
you are alive". Although at the time I wanted to say rude
and sarcastic things to him, in hindsight I came to find the
truth in his words. Those times you are experiencing pain in
life are also the times that you are growing and learning
the fastest.

In every situation, look for the learning you can get from
it. Once you have it, the pain generally ceases. Gain the
growth and cease the pain. If the pain continues, it is a
good indication that there is still something for you to
'get' (a lesson or understanding) from the experience.

Drink green tea, get less cancer

A long list of studies confirms that green tea drinkers generally get less cancer.

When researchers at Chung Shan Medical University in Taiwan, analyzed the diets of people with lung cancer and those without, they found that, for smokers, drinking green tea lowered the cancer risk by a factor of more than 12. Overall, among smokers and non-smokers, green tea was shown to lower lung cancer risk by 500 percent.2

Scientists at the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center have shown that green tea lowers women’s risk of developing digestive system cancers, especially cancers of the stomach/esophagus and colo-rectum.3

"For all digestive system cancers combined, the risk was reduced by 27 percent among women who had been drinking tea regularly for at least 20 years," says Vanderbilt researcher Sarah Nechuta. "For colorectal cancer, risk was reduced by 29 percent among the long-term tea drinkers. These results suggest long-term cumulative exposure may be particularly important."

The Best way to Drink Green Tea

To protect your health, the best way to drink green tea is with lemon juice (or take vitamin C at the same time) and just a touch of sugar. Studies at Purdue show that consuming vitamin C (it’s in the lemon juice) and sucrose along with green tea can triple your absorption of green tea’s helpful catechins.4

It’s not often that one sees any benefit to eating sugar. In fact, this is the first time I’ve seen such a benefit reported. I’m a bit skeptical. It’s probably the lemon juice-green tea combo that’s so beneficial. But I guess we can allow ourselves a teensy amount of sugar :-)

Maintain Your Daily Motivation

We all have to work, every day. We may go to work at an office, or maybe our career allows us to work from home. No matter the situation, we all have daily responsibilities.

So why not make the experience pleasant, productive and satisfying? By keeping your chin up and not getting too frustrated with temporary setbacks, you can maintain a positive can-do attitude. Here are 5 ideas to keep you motivated.

1) Don't skip a meal
Stopping to eat lunch is NOT a waste of time, but a necessary break to help you re-energize.

2) Schedule time for fun
Schedule some fun things to do throughout the day. Enjoy a cup of coffee and read a few pages of a book, or take a brisk walk outside and enjoy the outdoors.

3) Steer clear of naysayers
Avoid those people who bring you down. Surround yourself with energetic and enthusiastic people, the individuals who make you feel wonderful.

4) Start an exercise program
Find a friend or co-worker to exercise with. It could be a walk during your lunch hour, OR meeting your friends at the gym before or after work. When you know you look good and you feel good, you're going to be motivated throughout the entire day!

5) Find solutions to problems
Don't let an obstacle bring you down, find a solution to the problem and get yourself back on track.
Motivation is not present by chance or luck...it's by you doing what it takes to keep yourself full of energy and yearning for great things!

Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time.

Help our kids..

Childhood anxieties can haunt us our entire lives.

They can grow into insecurities, relationship issues, addictions, patterns of self-sabotage, depression, and affect every aspect of our adult life.
It's been said that there are only 3 motivations in life:
1. Ambition
2. Fear
3. Love

Of all of these *fear* is the most prominent in our world today.
*Ambition*has it's limitations and can easily corrode honesty and

compassion.  And in
most cases, ambition itself is usually fueled by a deeper fear.

*Love* is the only one that leads to deep lasting fulfillment.
*Love* is the only one that never compromises integrity and sincerity.
*Love* has no ulterior motives and casts away the shadow of fear.

Children were made in love and are living embodiments of love.
No one teaches us about love better than our kids.

As parents our greatest desire is for our children to thrive and be happy.
When we see our children get caught in patterns of fear, it's
heart-breaking.  So how do we help children who are anxious, afraid,
hesitant, insecure or downright dysfunctional because they are caught in
the grip of fears?

How can we help toddlers, kids and teens who are struggling in the world
because of this?

There are many tips to assist with these issues on the Parenting Club website available.

What are C vitamins

The c vitamin is the most widely known vitamin today. It is not surprising because the body needs c vitamin for over 300 functions and protects against heart disease, cancer and other serious illnesses.

Without the c vitamin the body would not be able to heal itself either. This is because the c vitamin is vital for the formation of collagen. It is the collagen that helps repair the damage of cuts and scrapes, and without sufficient c vitamin this would be almost impossible. .

The c vitamin is also an antioxidant for the body and helps other vitamins and minerals to be absorbed better. Folic acid and iron, for example, need the c vitamin to maximise their usefulness. The more c vitamin that the body has, the better its defence against colds and other common ailments and the c vitamin may not prevent a person catching a virus but it does help speed up the recovery process.

There is c vitamin in almost every fruit and vegetable but some have far higher c vitamin content than others. Cranberries and melons have high c vitamin content. In fact, tropical fruits have the highest c vitamin amounts of all fruit.

Hot peppers are amongst the richest sources of the c vitamin when it comes to vegetables. The hotter the pepper, the higher its c vitamin content is. Unfortunately, the c vitamin is water soluble so many vegetables lose their effectiveness as a c vitamin provider if they are boiled for a long time. Steaming or quick stir frying vegetables ensures that more of their c vitamin content is retained. The recommended daily amount of the c vitamin is easily obtained from eating five portions of fruit and vegetables a day if they are consumed raw or cooked quickly.

C vitamin supplements are extremely useful to ensure that people obtain sufficient c vitamin. However, with a balanced diet the amount of c vitamin the body receives is likely to be sufficient. However, if a person begins feeling tired or lethargic then a c vitamin supplement will help overcome this.

There is no danger of having too much c vitamin
as the body simply excretes the excess.

Cancer scientists have even made a stunning announcement: A special form of vitamin C can kill cancer cells without harming normal cells.

What are B Vitamins ?

The Different Types of B Vitamins

There are a large number of B vitamins that are needed to keep all of the body functions performing properly. All of the B vitamins are essential for a number of different processes. Without sufficient B vitamins the blood supply would not be healthy and this leads to a variety of illnesses and diseases.

The following is a list of Vitamin names used

Thiamin, or B1, is the B vitamin that the body needs to keep all of its cells, especially the nerves, functioning correctly. It is especially important for memory and general mental health and is one of the B vitamins that is required to convert food into energy.

Riboflavin, or B2, is the B vitamin that is essential for releasing the enrgy from food that has been consumed. Without this B vitamin the body cannot grow or develop properly as red blood cells will not be as healthy as they should be.

Niacin, or B3, is the B vitamin that is involved in over fifty processes, ranging from detoxifying chemicals to making hormones and releasing energy from food.

Pantothenic acid, or B5,works with several other B vitamins for a number of essential processes including breaking down fats, proteins, and carbohydrates into energy and is also the B vitamin that is needed to form vitamin D, a variety of hormones, and red blood cells.

Pyridoxine, or B6, is the B vitamin that is largely responsible for redistributing the amino acids to create over five thousand proteins that are needed by the body and is also one of the B vitamins needed to form various enzymes.

Biotin, or B7, is one of the B vitamins that are involved in a number of processes within the body, including the breaking down of fats, carbohydrates and proteins into useable energy forms.

Folic acid, or B9, is the essential B vitamin for aiding in cell growth and division, especially during pregnancy. This B vitamin is also necessary to make natural chemicals which control the appetite, moods and quality of sleep. It is also the best B vitamin for helping lower the chances of suffering a heart attack or stroke by keeping the arteries open.

Cobalamin, or B12
, is one of the B vitamins that is important in the process of converting the carbohydrates, proteins, and fats into energy. This B vitamin is also vital in forming the protective covering of nerve cells and to keep red blood cells healthy, and help prevent heart disease.

Meditation for Stress relief

Did you know that a key cause of nearly all
health problems is stress? And that if you could
seriously lower your stress level (and there is a
way) it would transform your health--including
many serious health problems.

Wouldn't you like to wake up in the morning actually
feeling good? When was the last time you enthusiastically
jumped out of bed eager to start the day?

What is this solution? Meditation.

Yes, I know. You probably don't want to meditate.  Or,
you tried it and it was too hard, or too boring.

But I have several articles on my Wisdom Adventure blog that give tips on this very topic.

Youtube also has many good videos like the one below
that can also help meditate and relieve stress.

Live Long and enjoy a stress free life.

Keeping Fit and Loving Life

You can begin loving life by learning to appreciate your health.

There are many ways that you can keep yourself fit without having to go through the usual process of going to the gym and working the machines to lose pounds.

One of the easiest and simplest ways to stay fit is by walking. Making it a habit to walk can do a lot in trying to make your body physically active. Walking can be very beneficial if you try to make a habit out of it just by changing some of the things that you usually do. If you plan to go somewhere on a short distance, why not walk it out instead of using your car?

Riding your bike
can also be a good way to stay fit. You can use your bike instead if you wish to go places that can be too far to walk. You can use your bike instead of your car and then enjoy the benefits of physical exercise. Not only that by using your bike instead of your car, you may also be saving quite considerably on fuel costs.

Jogging can also be a good way to keep yourself fit. Jogging is a fairly easy and effective way to improve your aerobic fitness. You don't have to buy a running machine or use the treadmill just to do so. Jogging can also offer other benefits aside from just helping you keep fit. It might be much better for you to be outdoors where the weather is nice and go out on a jog than to drag yourself to the gym. By going outdoors, you enjoy the fresh air and the surrounding scenery as you go out jogging to keep yourself fit.

If you wish to combine work with exercise as a means to keep fit, maybe you can try out gardening. Doing work on your lawn or yard can d a lot to give you a good physical workout. Working with the shovels and spades can help keep your muscles toned. You also make your yard look more beautiful by taking care of it as a means to keep fit.

Even at work, keeping fit can also be included in the daily tasks. Taking the stairs instead of the elevator gives your body a good workout. You can try to park your car at the far end of the parking lot and try to walk the rest of the way into your office. When going out to lunch, you can try walking instead of driving there. This way, you can still continue giving yourself a good workout even while at work. And doing this daily would get your good results after a week or so.

Loving life means trying to take care of your body and keep it healthy. A healthy body ensures that you are able to do the things that you love doing. Having a healthy and fit body ensures that you thoroughly enjoy life with less limitations and more possibilities.

Unwind after work - stress relief

Unwind after work

______________________Stress relief tips________________________

Its 5pm and all you are wanting to do is pack up your desk and head on home. You’ve had enough and are hanging out for that beer. As much as this sounds the best way to end the day it is not necessarily the only way to end the day.

With this in mind I thought I would share three practical steps for you to integrate into your life like a habit to let go of the day and be present in your mind when you are at home.

1. Move your body. Get out and play with your kids, go for a relaxing walk with your partner or even go and walk your dog. Just move your body even for 10 minutes. The aim of this is to relax your mind not necessarily your body.

2. Drink herbal teas. You have probably head about Chamomile herb tea being a relaxant but did you know that at your local health food shop you can also buy herb teas like Lavender flowers and hops? Yes the same hops that go into your beer can be made into a herbal tea. Taking hops as tea instead of in a beer means none of the same calories and can calm nervousness and anxiety and promote sleep in cases of insomnia.

3. Vaporise essential oils. I have designed a new essential oil blend called “Unwind”. Unwind is a grounding but uplifting blend of Vetiver, Australian Sandalwood, Sweet Orange, Cedarwood, Patchouli and Geranium. Unwind is designed to settle your busy mind and lift your spirit so that you can let go of work and be grounded in your home life.

So instead of waiting to have a crappy night where your mind is still racing from a busy day at work, take a few minutes to unwind and enjoy your evenings with the people you care about the most..... your family.

An Overview Of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

The name chronic fatigue can be somewhat confusing since chronic or persistent fatigue is also a symptom of several conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis and lupus.

Fatigue is the feeling of exhaustion that results from exertion, lack of sleep and illnesses. However, ordinary fatigue is not extreme or persistent, and the patient generally gets better after getting some rest.

What is Chronic Fatigue?

Chronic fatigue happens when this sensation of extreme exhaustion and lack of energy persists for over six months. The exact cause of chronic fatigue is not known but it is believed that several factors play a role in its symptoms, such as stress, hormone levels and infection. Lack of sleep, insomnia and other sleep disturbances can also result to chronic fatigue. Other factors that contribute to the development of chronic fatigue are poor diet, lack of exercise and certain medications.

What is Chronic Fatigue Syndrome?

According to the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases or NIAMS for a patient to be diagnosed as suffering from chronic fatigue syndrome, he must be having severe chronic fatigue for six months or longer. At the same time, the patient should also have four or more of the following symptoms:

Impaired short-term memory and concentration

Prolonged general malaise after physical exertion of any kind

Muscle pain

Pain, swelling and redness in multiple joints

Severe headache

Tender lymph nodes

Recurring sore throat

Un-refreshing sleep

Diagnosing Chronic Fatigue

Diagnosing chronic fatigue syndrome can be quite tricky since there are no physical signs that identify it. There are also no diagnostic laboratory tests that confirm chronic fatigue syndrome. A diagnosis of CFS is given if the symptoms recur for six consecutive months or more and there are no apparent explanations for the fatigue such as disease. However, it should be noted that there are other conditions that overlap and sometimes coexist with CFS and have similar symptoms.

A study of patients suffering from CFS revealed that only 38% of the patients were diagnosed solely with the syndrome. The rest had a diagnosis of a number of diseases such as fibromyalgia and multiple chemical sensitivity or both. Doctors are still unsure whether these conditions are direct causes or have common causes with CFS; or whether that have no relationship whatsoever with chronic fatigue syndrome.

Treatment and Medication

There is still no known cure for CFS so treatments are aimed at relieving the symptoms and improving the body's functions. To achieve this, doctors usually recommend a combination of medications and non-drug therapies. Lifestyle changes, dietary restrictions, nutritional supplements are also recommended as an addition to drug therapy. Patients who suffer from CFS are also urged to have regular exercise to help reduce the symptoms of chronic fatigue.
However, the doctor should carefully supervise physical activity as this can exacerbate the symptoms of chronic fatigue.

It is important that the patient discuss his/her symptoms with the doctor. It is also important that doctors know what other medications the patient is taking since some medications can exaggerate the symptoms of CFS. Recovery rates from chronic fatigue syndrome are varied.

In a 2005 review of published studies on CFS, it was revealed that improvement rates varied from 8% to 63% with 40% of the patients improving during follow-up.

A Quick-Start guide to Acupuncture

I've had many friends and relatives swear by acupuncture and have seen amazing results with pain management and healing using these techniques.  here is a short description of what acupuncture is and how it may help.

Using needles to adjust bodily functions to optimum levels is the principle behind acupuncture. Both ancient Chinese and modern Western practitioners have used this technique to relieve many sufferers of chronic disease. Needling is a relatively safe, beneficial treatment strategy that can be used to reduce pain, improve healing, and increase general well-being. But exactly how is this procedure done and what sort of benefits can be obtained?

Procedure for Needle Puncture

There are two broad categories of acupuncture practice today, traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and medical acupuncture. Both have their merits, so the choice is individual. The decision for most people hinges upon which philosophy appeals more to them and which technique holds the least fear.

In TCM, practitioners adhere to the concept of Qi, or energy flow, and the meridians in which they travel. They use longer needles and insert them deeper in order to reach the acupuncture points. Modern science has found little evidence to prove the existence of these energy channels, but this is the technique that has been used effectively for thousands of years.

In medical acupuncture, the practitioners are graduates of western medical schools. Their application of needles is not based on the traditional acupuncture points, but on anatomic data. These acupuncturists use shorter needles and the insertions are shallower. They also tend to use fewer needles and leave them inserted for shorter periods of time. Adherents to TCM feel this is a watered-down version of the real thing. Nevertheless, many patients have felt relief of symptoms through this method.

Conditions for Puncture Application

There is a broad and extensive list of ailments which can be treated with acupuncture. The conditions run the gamut from asthma to constipation, anxiety to weight loss. Most TCM practitioners believe that any health condition results from an imbalance in Qi flow, therefore fixable with needle therapy. Western acupuncturists  have a more limited list of indications, the most common of which is undoubtedly control of pain.

Control of pain is the most well researched of all of the indications for acupuncture. There is a definite beneficial effect for a majority of patients using this method. Migraines, premenstrual syndrome, arthritis, carpal tunnel syndrome, and neuralgias are a few examples. The theory behind its effectiveness is also medically accepted and well researched, called the gate-control theory of pain. It states that the needles can stimulate nerves so that they block the impulses from pain triggers.

Expected Puncture Session Result

It is important to emphasize that acupuncture is used only on top of existing medical therapy. At no time should a patient discontinue medication or ignore medical instructions in favor of needle puncture. After undergoing a needle puncture regimen, the primary care physician can make an evaluation with regards to decreasing dependence on other therapies.

A course of acupuncture therapy will last anywhere from a few weeks to a few months. This depends upon the complexity of the particular medical condition. Results also vary, so it is important to have a frank discussion with the acupuncturist regarding expected results and their time frame. In general, the patient will begin to feel beneficial effects after three or four session. Certain specific conditions will actually get a little worse before improving so keeping informed is key.

In modern medicine, the use of traditional techniques with proven results has become a widely accepted practice. Acupuncture has proven its worth time and again. Modern practice guidelines make it effective, reproducible, and safe. It is a gift of healing form ancient sages that has the potential to bring relief to millions of people.

In my experience with back pain an acupuncture, the pain was completely gone for around 3 days - it really does work.

I hope this explains this form of treatment and alleviates any fears you may have in trying this
