Loving Life, Living Healthy

We hear a lot about living a healthy lifestyle, but how do we do it?

A healthy person is somebody who doesn’t smoke, healthy weight, eats healthy and exercises.  Sounds easy? Not so easy when we’re trying to do it.  In trying to live healthy, it is important to take simple steps or make small changes until we have totally incorporated healthy living into our lifestyle.

Exercise is a biggie, people lack activity nowadays.  Movement, even in moderate activities like doing chores, gardening and walking , makes a difference.  Just adding movement to our daily routine can reduce the risk of heart disease, stroke, diabetes, osteoporosis and fractures, stress and symptoms of anxiety and depression.

There are simple ways of moving our body without spending cash for gym membership.  We can do the following:

• Spending one day of the week doing something physical with the family, like playing in the park.

• Walking more!  Walking 20 every minutes everyday can do great results, not only to how you feel physically but also to your weight.

• Do some chores like gardening, raking leaves, sweeping the floor.

• Be aware of your physical activities every day.  If you notice that most  of your time is spent on a chair, then incorporate more movement into you daily schedule.

Tri Nature - Environmentally Responsible Household Products

Eating well is another practice of living healthy.  Clean and healthy diet can improve your health as well as your weight.  Again, the key is sneak smaller changes until you’ve realized that you are completely eating healthy.

You can do the following for you to eat healthier:

• Eat more fruit with your cereals, salads and meals.

• Eat more vegetables.  Add vegetables to your sandwich, pasta sauce.  Instead of digging into chips for quick snacks, have available fruits and canned vegetables.

• Eat low-fat or fat free dairy.  You can change your usual milk into skim milk or fat free yogurt.

• Look through your cabinets or fridge and pick three food that you eat every day.  The next time you went shopping, look for low-calorie substitutes for those three items.

Not only is it important to reduce your calorie intake when losing weight.  You should also know when to eat.  Breakfast is the most important meal of the day and the one meal that should not be missed.  Lunch should be healthy but less than what you ate for breakfast.  Avoid eating too much later the day.  Dinner should be healthy and light.  It is best to avoid dinner snacks or eating before going to bed.

Another part of healthy lifestyle is avoiding stress. There are numerous studies showing that stress is a major contributor of poor health.  It can even result to high-blood pressure, headaches, upset stomach, poor posture, and many more.  Keeping stress in check will make you feel a lot better.

Sleep. Sleeping and resting will enable your body to recover from all muscle and mental work.

Laughing is also a proven factor towards good health.  Laughing enables muscle to relax, stress hormone product is reduced, even pain is reduced, the body’s immune system is improved, high-blood pressure is lowered, heart and lungs are strengthened and you feel better overall.

Drastic changes are not necessarily needed when you are trying to live healthy.  There are numerous ways such as incorporating healthy living little by little into your lifestyle.  Living healthy means you are loving life.

5 Plants Used for Eczema Treatment

What is  Eczema ?

Eczema (atopic dermatitis) is a recurring, non-infectious, inflammatory skin condition affecting one in three Australasians at some stage throughout their lives. The skin becomes red, dry, itchy and scaly, and in severe cases, may weep, bleed and crust over, causing the sufferer much discomfort. Sometimes the skin may become infected. The condition can also flare and subside for no apparent reason.

Although eczema affects all ages, it usually appears in early childhood (in babies between two-to-six months of age) and disappears around six years of age. Most children grow out of the condition. Adult onset eczema is often difficult to treat and may be caused by other factors such as medications.

You may not know it yet, but a natural eczema treatment may be right in your garden or kitchen.

The following has been used for many years now in relieving
the symptoms of eczema.

Aloe Vera

We all know the many wonders the gel from aloe vera leaves does to the skin. It is no surprising that many skin care products have aloe vera gel as one of their ingredients. You can cut the leaf and apply the gel directly onto the skin with eczema. The gel works by moisturizing the affected area – the skin will become softer and the healing of tissue will become faster. Many people who have tried the aloe vera plant noted reduced eczema symptoms and improved skin quality.

Chamomile

There are two distinctive popular chamomile plants: German and Roman. They both look like small daisies and, by tradition, used as herbal remedy for almost the same problems. Chamomile has been found to have anti-inflammatory and anti-itching properties, therefore it is one of the many known natural treatment for eczema. The German variant is commonly used as a remedy for this skin condition. You can use chamomile tea as a compress on eczematous skin. Also, chamomile essential oils and topical creams may be used to massage the area with, and achieve similar healing effects.

Rosemary

Rosemary has been used for many centuries now because of its cleansing and anti-oxidant properties. You can purchase rosemary essential oils, bath soap and topical creams at aromatherapy and natural bath and body products stores. It is good at reducing skin inflammation and helps improve blood circulation. The camphoraceous smell also helps relive stress and invigorate you. Here’s how to use this wonderful herb: as an essential oil, you can add a few drops onto your bathwater and soak yourself in it for minutes; as a soap and topical cream, massage onto the eczematous skin.

Walnut Leaves

The walnut tree leaves have been used for thousands of years now because of their medicinal properties, especially for treating various skin disorders. Their anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal and astringent properties make them an effective remedy for scabies, skin ulcers, eczema and many others. You can utilize infusions and tinctures made from the leaves of a walnut tree to protect the eczematous skin from infection.

A decoction may also be prepared as a compress on the affected area. To do this, cut 2-3 grams of dried walnut leaves into pieces. Place them in 100 mg cold water. Bring it to a boil then let simmer for 15 minutes. When cooled, apply on skin.

Turmeric

Turmeric belongs to the ginger family and is used worldwide for cooking as well as medicinal purposes. Yes, it is that yellow substance that adds color and flavor to curry. It has been found that curcumin, an active substance found in turmeric, has a wide variety of therapeutic actions, most especially its anti-inflammatory effects.

This works because of the substance’s ability to lower the body’s production of histamine, and possibly stimulate the production of cortisone – a steroid hormone. You can purchase turmeric in pill form at natural food stores and take 500 mg of it daily. You may also apply it topically when bought as oil, cream or ointment. Mixing turmeric powder with water is also great for washing eczematous skin with.

A natural eczema treatment is definitely less expensive than conventional medications prescribed by doctors these days. They have been around for many years now and are used as a treatment for different conditions.

Known Side Effects of Chiropractic Care

As a followup to my previous post, a quick look at possible risks with Chiropractic manipulation

Any form of health system intervention poses the risks of developing certain side effects and chiropractic care is one of them. Although there are a few of them, gaining knowledge about potential side effects that can be brought about by chiropractic care will help one prevent the possibility of it evolving into a more serious condition that can be life-threatening.

Common Side Effects

Ever since its emergence, chiropractic care has been receiving praises in the medical industry for introducing a brand of medical treatment that is effective and yet safe. For once, it lacks the use of invasive medical approaches that can be both dangerous and expensive. However, side effects with chiropractic care cannot be fully avoided due to differences in the way a patient's body adjusts to the chiropractic manipulation or the extent of the damage.

If there are any side effect to be experienced from the use of chiropractic treatment, they are mostly mild and pose no real threat to someone's health. For instance, a patient suffers from a feeling of soreness or slight pain on the part of the body where adjustments were done. In other cases, patients reported of having minor headaches after undergoing chiropractic treatment. Any form of pain experienced during treatment are due to the exertion of pressure and force on the spine by the chiropractor performing the adjustments.

How Common or Rare Is It?

Minor side effects range from feeling of fatigue, soreness, headaches, among others and they are all temporary. Plus, patients who experience them only cover a minor percentage of patients undergoing chiropractic care.

Another advantage of chiropractic treatments that you should make use of is the lack of drug prescription or use of surgical methods to treat the medical condition. Therefore, patients who need chiropractic care must not hesitate to proceed since any risks of developing side effects is very low. In fact, it is determined to be the least risky method of health care treatment available in the medical community.

Important note from this video::
Relax all your back muscles before! Get massage before and then crack you back.
Use your electric massage for at least 15 mins.
Then perform this movement, not hard! I solved the low back pain due to driving, work and more.

Serious Side Effects

Several publications falsely claim that there are serious side effects brought about by spinal manipulation or other chiropractic treatments. Stroke is one of them. They claim the stroke is a result of the manipulation on the neck that create damage to the arteries that transport blood into the brain.

The case of chiropractic patients acquiring stroke as a result of the procedure is a rare incident though. In fact, statistics show that only 1 out of a million chiropractic patients are going to develop stroke. Hence, the risks of developing this particular side effect can almost be considered non-existent.

When Is Chiropractic Care Not Recommended?

Majority of chiropractic treatments provide immediate relief for patients. However, when pain continues even after the initial treatment procedure, it is recommended that the chiropractic treatment is continued for the next two weeks until the symptoms of their condition subsides. If there are no signs of improvement, then doctors reconsider other treatment options aside from chiropractic care.

There are certain instances or disorders though wherein chiropractic is not the best recommended type of treatment to undergo. Among them are infection in the bones or joints, acute rheumatoid arthritis, bone cancer, osteoporosis, or other diseases in the bone marrow or spinal cord.

How You Can Prevent Them

There is no better way to guard yourself against any serious complications that could arise from contracting side effects on a treatment procedure than to prevent it. Here's how you can do it:

• Talk with your chiropractors about possible side effects that can develop from a treatment method. This will enable you to take proper measures in ensuring that the side effects do not worsen or if there are any ways for you to prevent them.

• Try talking to previous chiropractic patients to determine what side effects they experienced (if any) and discuss how they dealt with it.

• When you experience side effects that last beyond 24 to 48 hours, make sure to inform your medical doctor or chiropractor immediately.

What Chiropractic Care Can Do for You

Chiropractic care can provide patients with a wide array of benefits.

Knowing the process can help you determine the effects that can occur throughout the body. .

Here are some of the known effects to help you decide whether the treatment is also right for your condition.

Correcting Misalignment

Generally, chiropractic care is known to be very effective in correcting misalignment in the spine and joints. The technique used widely by professionals is called chiropractic adjustment or spinal adjustment. In the United States, chiropractors practice more than 90% of all treatments and manipulations.

The technique is a passive move, where a joint is brought further than the normal range of movement. The range does not go far enough cause the joint to be dislocated or damaged. Spinal manipulative therapy (SMT) involves using the hands to massage, stimulate, mobilize and apply traction to the spine and related tissues.

Psychological Effects

Most patients feel relieved and relaxed after chiropractic sessions. In the beginning, you may feel some slight discomfort or mild pain as the joints are conditioned and your range of motion is increased than the usual. Patients begin to develop a higher sense of confidence and boost self-esteem as their condition begins to progress and they experience less pain and discomfort in their muscles and joints.

Patients suffering from neck and back pain for years will start to feel positively about themselves, as they are become more capable of performing activities of daily living. Relationship with family and friends is enhanced because of the process.

Modern Technology

Even though chiropractics in its earliest stages was developed hundreds of years ago, modern technology has also improved the techniques rendered. Patients can rest assured that treatment solutions are safe, quick and effective. There is very little risk in chiropractic care, since practitioners use a very accurate approach in treatment. Diagnostic tests are also given to ensure that patients have a certain specific problem, before employing any technique.

No Side Effects

Chiropractic is considered to be the biggest drug-free type of treatment for join pain. You do not have to worry about developing side effects in the long run. Most patients actually feel better after every treatment, until they only need to visit 1 to 3 times per year. Some even just visit to help remove stress and relax. You do not have to worry about signs and symptoms returning or more symptoms based on the use of drugs and other drastic medical measures like surgery.

The treatment approach is highly useful for families and individuals of various ages, such as infants, children, the elderly and pregnant women. These people can benefit greatly from the variety of measures available. At times, other alternate methods may also be used such as massage therapy and acupuncture.

These can be used to enhance the effects of chiropractic or to simply get rid of stress that slows down the healing process.

You Gotta Love Fish Oil

One has gotta love fish oil. If you think that I’m kidding then please continue reading.

Those who shun fishes like mackerel, tuna and salmon due to some personal and at times even weird preferences might have second thoughts after they come to learn the benefits of eating those kinds of fish. These fish along with herring, sardines, flounder and lake trout contains omega-3 fatty acids.

However, just to clarify the fish themselves are not capable of producing the oil themselves. In the case of herrings and sardines, they accumulate the omega-3 deposits from eating microalgae that produces them. And mackerel, salmon, flounder, and trout get their supply from eating small fishes like the herrings.

Now aside from the omega-3, other fatty acids present in what we may call oily fishes are the eicosapentaenoic acid or EPA and docosahexaenoic acid or DHA. You have probably heard of these two from commercials or advertisements which markets products that contain these acids. EPA and DHA can play an important role in the development of one’s brain, helps keep the nervous system in top shape and even protect people from heart disease.

Another good reason of making oily fish part of the daily meals or considering fish oil as food supplement is that it can reduce the risk of getting cancer. May it be breast, prostate or colon cancer, fish that are rich in fatty acids were found to be capable of stopping the development and spread of cancer cells to healthy ones.

And what about the findings that pregnant women has less chance of developing complications during pregnancies? You see, those fatty and oily fishes are more than just a treat to the palates. The fish oil, moreover, helps prevent premature delivery and low birth weight. In fact, women who consumed fish oil during their pregnancy were found to deliver babies that are stronger against allergies.

Besides the things that have mentioned so far, fish oil seems to be quite beneficial for our eyesight as well. As we grow older our eyesight slowly diminishes. That’s why a lot of older folks need corrective eyeglasses or even surgery just to see a little bit clearer. Fish oil helps improves eyesight, decrease the dryness, and prevents the decline of eyesight in old age.

Other known benefit include treatment for inflammatory bowel disorders, rheumatoid arthritis and even systemic lupus. Not to mention, fatty acids from fish can help prevent a variety of depression and anxieties. The omega-3 in the fatty acids are good for relieving anxiety, sadness, stress, mental fatigue, restlessness, suicidal tendencies and some nervous disorders. Even those who have been diagnosed with bipolar disorders are encouraged to include fish oil in their diet.

If you by now you’re still not loving fish oil then I don’t know what else to say. Since studies are being conducted continuously, scientists will find more benefits from eating fish oil. They will find a whole new list of why it would be good to add fish oil in one’s diet.

However, even at this time with the different benefits that have been cites, I have no reason to doubt that one really gotta love fish oil.

Aging Parents - Love 'em

When we start to deal with parents that are aging, we often start to examine our lives together.

For most of us a natural part of the cycle of life is when our roles as children start to shift into care taking roles where out parents are concerned. This can be moving a parent into a retirement home, or realizing its necessary to check in with them more often than usual.

Whatever the case, this change is momentous as it signals a time of confronting our own mortality as we confront that of our parents. In addition, it can bring up issues about how well they cared for us when we were young.

We may also find fear at the thought of losing them, even if we’ve been on our own for a very long time. When we can embrace all that they bring into our lives, we may be grateful for all we have learned from them and have to learn.

Grandparents Discover Photo Booth

Families can contain an interesting grouping of personalities.  As people marry into families and have children, even more personalities enter the picture. There may be some people that we would not choose to be related to, but that’s what friends are for.

Talking to other friends and family is a source of support. They can help us look at both the unresolved past and the unfolding present, and we are free to talk only about ourselves. Sometimes we need the kind of undivided attention a friend can offer in order to deal with the issues that come up at this time of our lives.

In many ways, this time of life signals a rebirth as we examine our individual past, as well as our family. As our parents lives move toward completion, we are able to see what they did with their time on earth, what we have done so far with our time, and what we might want to do with the time we have left.

These challenges and blessings are all part of the cycle of life.

Vitamin C and Its Skin-Saving Powers

The Untold Story of Fresh Vitamin C and Its Skin-Saving Powers

Following on from the previous post, there's something else that Brazilian beauties seem to get a lot more of than the rest of us do—their radiant complexions depend on it.  Believe it or not, it's vitamin C.  But not the man-made, synthetic vitamin C you might get in a multivitamin supplement.

Brazilians get their vitamin C from fresh, local fruits that most people have never heard of or tasted, and that have dozens of times more vitamin C than any supermarket fruit, including oranges.  The impact of fresh, food-based vitamin C on Brazilian women's skin and hair is astonishing!

But in spite of the profound effect vitamin C can have on your skin, chances are you've never heard the full story about what this vitamin can do for your appearance.  Your body depends on vitamin C to make collagen, which is the building block of skin.  It works below the surface of your skin to fight the signs of aging from all angles, For example ...

  •     It protects and repairs your DNA ...
  •     It activates skin regeneration ...
  •     It fights free radicals and rejuvenates skin that's been damaged by overexposure to UV rays (called photo-aging)

Why Your Vitamin C May Not be Enough

To get glowing, clear, healthy skin, experts advise at least 1,500 milligrams of vitamin C twice a day—that's 50 times more than the recommended daily allowance.  But remember, synthetic vitamin C—no matter how much you take—probably won't have the same effect as the vitamin C that Brazilians get from various local fruits.

For example, Brazilians regularly consume a juice derived from a type of cherry that is one of the Earth's purest sources of vitamin C, with 30 times more per ounce than an orange. They also regularly enjoy a special kind of purple berry that grows to the size of large grapes.  These purple berries are literally bursting with vitamin C—50 times more per ounce than the average orange!

Natural vitamin C from fresh source such as these Brazilian fruits gives you a complex array of different nutrient factors.  Every factor works together to deliver the full effect.  That's why your standard, drug-store vitamin C probably isn't working as well as the real thing—fighting free radicals, helping to eliminate toxins, or preserving your skin's youthful glow.

New Study: Vitamins Alter Aging
The next time you hear some nay-saying doctor claiming that there is no evidence that vitamins actually do anything show him this: A new study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition found that multivitamins can keep you younger, longer. The study found that those who took a multivitamin daily had 5.1 percent longer telomeres than non-users. Telomeres are the key to aging. And it’s not just your life span that’s affected… Short telomeres dramatically boost your risk of serious diseases. One study of 60 to 75 year olds showed those with short telomeres had a 300% higher death rate from heart disease and an 800% higher death rate from infectious diseases.

Brazilian Anti-Aging Superfood Secrets Uncovered

How Unique Nutrients from the World's Most Powerful Plants Promote Radiant Skin, Thick Glossy Hair, and a Youthful Glow

Brazil is known worldwide as a super model capitol.  Brazilian women are revered for their exceptional beauty, their smooth, glowing skin ... glossy hair ... and beautiful nails.  And Brazilian men are also renowned for their exceptional good looks.  Is the beauty of the Brazilians just a coincidence, some kind of lucky national trait?

Not surprisingly, the answer is no: The famous beauty of the Brazilian people is not a lucky coincidence.  The truth is, Brazilians feast every day on extraordinary superfoods packed with nutrients we simply don't get enough of.

Fortunately, this doesn't mean you can't also glow from the inside out—like a Brazilian.  All you need to know is exactly what these super-star nutrients are ... why they are so age-defying and beautifying to skin and hair ... and finally, the best and most effective way to find and use them.

What Are Brazilians Eating That Others Are Not?

When the highly respected and world-renowned integrative physician and anti-aging expert Dr. Al Sears visited Brazil 10 years ago, he was determined to find out why the Brazilians enjoyed such gorgeous, unlined skin, such lustrous hair, such long, strong nails.  He wanted to know what Brazilians were doing that others are not.

This question led Dr. Sears into an ongoing study of the Brazilian lifestyle.  And his research kept bringing him back to the food Brazilians eat.  Every day Brazilians have access to some of the most powerful plants and fresh produce on earth.  Brazilian markets are packed to the brim with foods and herbs we rarely see elsewhere.

Dr. Sears's research into the age-defying dietary habits of the Brazilians led him to the discovery of a rare and extremely nutrient-rich fruit.  This chocolaty-vanilla plant ripens during the rainy season, from January to April.  And when the harvest begins, there's a mad rush in every Brazilian market, restaurant, and street fair.

Fine restaurants and small cafés use the fruit to make different drinks, jams, dessert tarts and—a local favorite—ice cream.  This fruit sells out very quickly ... and then there's nothing to do but wait until next year.

This fruit is call cupuaçu: It’s better than chocolate. Brazilians love it for its unique chocolaty-vanilla taste. Fine restaurants and small cafés all over the country use it to make different drinks, jams, dessert tarts and ice cream.

You don’t have to go all the way to South America to get it. I’m developing a new formula that will bring cupuaçu to you, and it should be ready any day now. You’ll be hearing more about it soon.
In the meantime, look for cupuaçu at grocery stores that specialize in Brazilian foods. If they don’t have any of the fresh fruit on hand, look for it in the freezer section. When you find it, try this easy milkshake recipe…
  1. Mix 2 tablespoons of finely chopped lemongrass leaves, 2 tablespoons of honey and 2 cups of milk in a blender.
  1. Pour the mixture through a strainer and put it in the freezer for about 30 minutes.
  1. For the rest, you need 1 cup of cupuaçu pulp. If you’re using frozen cupuaçu, be sure to defrost it a little first. If you’re using fresh, try blending it together with some ice.
  1. Separate the pulp into two glasses.
  1. Top them with the frozen lemongrass mixture and enjoy.
You can also get cupuaçu butter for your skin at your local health food store. I also use it in my mineral-based sunscreen called Solis, from my natural skincare line Pure Radiance. It combines cupuaçu and shea butter to soothe your skin and boost your antioxidant protection.

7 Steps to Thinking Better: Your Brain Power Boost

If you are one of those people who want to think better,
your brain power boost might be just a few steps away.

1. Engage yourself in a Regular Exercise

Do simple exercises like a simple walk or jog. It may not be as

intense as a full-blown work-out. You just have to keep your body
physically fit and active.

Simple work-outs may trigger the release of neurochemicals known as

endorphins. These chemicals are responsible for making us feel
happy and by feeling happier, a more positive effect on the brain
can be observed.

2. Supplement your Diet

Natural supplements are believed to have a good effect on the

brain. These supplements not only keep your body healthier, they
also maintain the fitness of your brain; thus resulting to better
brain power! These supplements are so popular that they can be
found anywhere, from your local health and food store up to the web
pages of the internet.

3. Use your Brain

If you are to exercise your body, you should exercise your brain as

well. Use your brain muscles more often - think and learn. You may
read, talk with other people or even play educational games. Any
activity that can keep your brain working effectively may be tried
out.

4. Play Games

Choose games that will definitely have a good effect on your brain.

Refrain from playing games which are "no-brainer." Nowadays, most
computer games are designed to exercise your brain, so all you have
to do is to choose well the games that you will play. Gaming
consoles are also following the fad into increasing brain function.
So, do your part in boosting your brain power, play games that will
increase your brain power.

5. Enjoy an Educational Hobby

Choose a hobby that will give you some lessons at the end of the

activity. This will not be such a difficult task since most of the
time, we learn something from our experiences. Just be sure to do
things that are not monotonous. Your hobby should be something that
will help you learn new things every time you perform it. This way,
you will be able to use some parts of your brain which are left
unused before.

6. Sleep Well

Sleeping is the time when your body rebuilds and recharges itself.

Most professionals believe that you should sleep for at least six
to eight hours a day. Aside from these hours, you should also try
to take ten-minute power naps.  After these refreshing sleeps and
naps, you will surely feel energized to take on more activities for
the day. Do not deprive yourself of sleep, and you will then
realize that your brain will function better with more hours of
sleep.

7. Relax

Because of the complexities of our society today, your brain is

exhausted just as much as your body. Thus, you should take the time
to relax and cleanse your mind of the worries and stresses that
might overwhelm your thoughts. You may want to try on spas or
meditations to give your mind a break from all the hassle. After
the relaxation, you will feel that you are prepared to take on
another complex day! This is how you make better your brain's
health and performance.

11 VERY BAD Habits that are Actually GOOD for You

You probably think the items that follow fall into that “off limits” category, yet studies show they can actually be quite good for you in their own right. Moderation is, of course, key in all things, so we’re not saying you should throw caution to the wind entirely – just that, sometimes, what’s “bad” turns out to be good…

1. Daydreaming

Your teachers scolded you as a child, but it turns out daydreamers aren’t the lazy procrastinators they’re pegged as. When you daydream, your brain is actually very active, and that includes the brain region known as the “executive network,” which is associated with high-level thinking and complex problem-solving.[i] Letting your mind wander may be nature’s way of helping you work through difficult issues in your life; studies show it also boosts creativity and helps you think abstractly, which may be useful for improving your empathy and social relationships.

2. Eating Chocolate

It’s ok to indulge in a bit of chocolate – particularly if its dark chocolate. The humble cocoa bean contains potent antioxidants that are quite good for your heart. One recent study even found that those who ate the most chocolate had a 37% reduction in heart disease and a 29% reduction in stroke compared to those who ate the lowest levels.[ii] As a general rule, the darker (and more bitter) the chocolate, the healthier it is.

3. Eating Fat

Many types of fat are actually good for you. You’re probably familiar with heart-healthy monounsaturated fats in foods like olive oil, nuts and avocado, but there’s also omega-3 fats, found in fish and fish oil, which are also beneficial for your heart, your brain, cancer and much more.

But did you know a recent study from the Netherlands found that eating saturated fats is not associated with heart disease? Instead, they found that cutting saturated fats from your diet and replacing them with carbohydrates actually increases heart disease risk![vii]

Another study found that supplementing your diet with coconut oil (rich in saturated fat) helps to reduce abdominal obesity.[viii]

So if you’re looking to lose weight, cutting fat from your diet is probably not the answer. Cutting unhealthy carbs (like sugar) and exercise will often do the trick, and you can also try a spritz of ThinMist under your tongue before each meal. It enters your bloodstream in just 23 seconds, flooding your body with critical minerals… amino acids… and natural, bio-identical hormones that work synergistically to help BURN FAT more efficiently. It essentially kicks your metabolism into high gear all day long, and best of all, because it’s a 100% natural formula, you won’t experience any harmful side effects!

4. Drinking Alcohol

Light to moderate alcohol consumption has been linked to lower rates of heart disease, diabetes, cancer and cognitive decline. Red wine, which is rich in antioxidants, is often touted as the “healthiest” type of alcohol, but even beer has been linked to these benefits. The U.S. Department of Agriculture even said that moderate drinking may save 26,000 lives a year due to these benefits![iv]

What is moderate drinking? No more than 2 drinks a day for men and 1 a day for women. If you have an alcohol addiction, of course, it’s best to abstain regardless.

5. Getting Angry

Getting angry actually has psychological benefits when channeled appropriately. For starters, anger can motivate you to take action when it’s necessary (such as standing up for a good cause) and it can help you communicate in your personal relationships. Hiding your anger in a relationship can be detrimental and may hinder your ability to solve problems or lead to a bigger blowup in the future. Many also find that getting angry allows for self-reflection, including insights into your own faults, which can prompt positive change. So letting your anger out, responsibly and appropriately, can indeed be a very good thing.

6. Being Out in the Sun

If you’re still shunning the sun for fear of skin cancer, you should know that many experts are now advising sensible sun exposure on a daily basis. When the sun hits your bare skin (i.e. without sunscreen), your body produces vitamin D, optimal levels of which can reduce your risk of cancer, heart disease, depression, obesity, Alzheimer’s disease, rheumatoid arthritis and much more. Many Americans are dangerously deficient in vitamin D, so some safe sun exposure would be beneficial (as long as you don’t get burned).

7. Eating Meat

Eating meat in moderation can be beneficial. It’s one of the best sources of protein, as it contains all of the essential amino acids, and it’s also an excellent source of iron, zinc and beneficial B vitamins. Interestingly, even red meat like beef can be healthy, as half of the fatty acids it contains are monounsaturated (the same type as in heart-healthy olive oil). And if you opt for grass-fed beef, it will also be a rich source of conjugated linoleic acid (CLA), which may help prevent cancer. Ideally, your meat should be grass-fed, organic and from a sustainably farmed source.

8. Grilling

Grilling foods can create the formation of cancer-causing chemicals called HCA’s (heterocyclic amines). But, marinating meats for at least several hours beforehand in liquid mixtures that contain rosemary and other herbs/spices can dramatically help to reduce HCAs. It appears that the highly potent antioxidants in these herbs prevent HCA formation.

9. Drinking Coffee

Coffee has antioxidant properties and drinking a few cups a day has been linked to health advantages ranging from a lower risk of type 2 diabetes, colon cancer, and gallstones to improved cognitive function. If you’re going to drink coffee, dark roast appears to be the best, offering superior improvements in antioxidant levels and even helping people to lose weight, compared to lighter roasts.[v]

10. Playing Video Games

Video games do offer players some unique benefits, including greater dexterity, more acute eyesight, faster reflexes, quicker decision-making (without sacrificing accuracy), and even improvements in memory and creativity. One recent study even found that specially designed video games (such as one based on killing cancer cells in your body, designed for cancer patients) can boost positive motivation, leading to improvements in health and behavior.[vi]

11. Taking Naps

Does your spouse ever nag you for taking an afternoon siesta? Have you been caught snoozing on the job?
bad habits that are good for you

It’s a shame napping is so frowned upon in the United States (it’s actually common in other areas, like the Mediterranean), as not only do naps lower your risk of dying from heart disease and stroke,[iii] but they’ve also been found to improve creating thinking, memory and learning.

For best results, keep your naps short, from a few minutes up to a half hour (too much longer and it might make you groggy)

Healing with Massage

Massaging our feet through self-reflexology can be an easy and free way to support our mind, body and spirit.

Our feet are home to literally thousands of nerve endings and about seventy acupuncture points, which is why foot reflexology is so effective. By massaging and stimulating specific areas on the soles of our feet, we can provide general support for our entire body, improve sleep patterns, increase physical and mental wellbeing and also alleviate chronic conditions such as sinusitis and digestive upset. We can treat ourselves to a self-reflexology massage if we take some time for this exercise before we begin our day or in the evening to relax before going to bed.

There are many different ways to work the soles of your feet, including rolling each foot over a golf or tennis ball, walking barefoot on river stones, or just using your fingers and hands to massage your feet. When starting a reflexology session, it’s a good idea to begin with loosening up your ankles – rotate each foot clockwise then counter clockwise about ten times. You might also want to pinch the end of your toes, which can increase circulation and drainage in your sinuses and stimulate your pituitary and pineal glands. Then you can begin massaging the ball of your foot, the arch, and the heel. If you find that an area is tender, it may indicate some problem occurring in the related area of the body.  You may want to explore what is going on with that organ or system.

Whether we are able to spend just a few minutes a day on this kind of self-care or a full half hour, our efforts are never wasted. By taking responsibility for our own health and taking time every day to connect with our body, we can not only assist our body in letting go of stress and dysfunction, but we can also continue to support an ongoing sense of wellness and vitality.

Camphor oil rub for back pain

You don’t have to shell out big bucks for a nonprescription cream for back pain. Instead, try this effective, easy-to-make rub.

Camphor oil rub for back pain

Ingredients for camphor oil rub

1 tablespoon finely minced fresh ginger (or 1 tablespoon powdered ginger)
1 tablespoon dried rosemary
1/4 cup olive oil
5 drops peppermint oil (optional)
2 drops camphor or wintergreen essential oil (optional)

Preparation for camphor oil rub

1. Whirr the ginger and rosemary in a clean coffee grinder until very fine and blended.

2. Mix the olive oil and the peppermint and camphor oils together in a small bowl.

3. Blend in the rosemary-ginger mixture.

4. Have someone rub the fragrant mixture into the painful area of your back and cover with a piece of flannel or an old T-shirt. Then put a heating pad over the cloth for 15 to 20 minutes and rest while the rubs soak in. You can double the recipe for larger areas. Wash it off during a soak in the tub, if you like.

TIP

To get relief from back pain try spending a few days without your wallet or handbag.
You heard me :-)

Men’s wallets can be so thick, they press on nerves when sat on for any length of time. Likewise, women’s shoulder bags can weigh 4kg or more and can twist the body in all sorts of weird ways. Clean out your wallet or handbag, and see if the pain doesn’t ease.
